Our pathways are interactive, online themed learning modules which bring together resources, videos, articles and 1:1 appointments that you can work through at your own time and at your own pace. We have pathways on CVs, interviews, applications, cover letters, psychometric tests, assessment centres and postgraduate study. Our newest pathway ‘Get: Ready International Students’ has just launched, with information and tools to allow you to understand the UK job and recruitment market, find out about visa options and how to target the right employers. To get the most out of the Careers Service, either whilst you are a UoM student or during the two years after you graduate, sign up to CareerConnect, our opportunities and events portal, and complete your profile. You can then receive job/event alerts, search for job opportunities, book places on events (including employer webinars and workshops), and arrange careers, application and CV advice appointments with our team.

Theology. Honorary research fellow bishop David, professor of Anglican Studies in the World Religions and Education Research Unit at Bishop Grosseteste University, Lincoln has two entries in Thought for the Day: 50 years of fascinating thoughts and reflections from the world's religious thinkers.

Student Campus Leadership Opportunity

Interfaith opportunity. Leading interfaith organisation the Council of Christians and Jews has relaunched its Campus Leadership Programme that appoints and supports students to create interfaith initiatives. It is open to students of all faiths and beliefs. Further information.

Biblical Studies. Honorary Research Fellow David A. Lamb has just had a jointly-authored article published, based on research he undertook as a Visiting Scholar in the linguistics department at Bangor University: David A. New Appointment

Lecturer in Modern Christian Theology. Dr Eve Parker has joined the Religions and Theology department as Lecturer in Modern Theology. She has previously worked at Durham University researching barriers to belonging in theological education – focusing on inclusive and transformative pedagogy. The outcome of this research was published in her latest book, Trust in Theological Education: Deconstructing ‘Trustworthiness’ for a Pedagogy of Liberation (London: SCM, 2022). Her other research areas include Feminist and Liberation theologies, and World Christianity. For her PhD research at the University of St Andrews, she engaged in ethnographic research in the context of South India with Dalit women dedicated to local village goddesses as devadasis, this led to the publication of her book, Theologising with the Sacred ‘Prostitutes’ of South India: Towards an Indecent Dalit Theology (Leiden: Brill, 2021). She is also currently researching abuse in religious contexts.

Lecture and Workshop, Romania

Dead Sea Scrolls. On 17th October George Brooke gave a lecture to celebrate 75 years since the first discovery of Dead Sea Scrolls in Cave 1 in 1947. The lecture was followed by a 90-minute workshop. The lecture was for the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology at the University of the West in Timisoara, Romania. He was introduced by CJS Honorary Research Fellow Maria Cioata.

Interview

Jewish Studies. CJS honorary research fellow Ion Popa gave an interview on his book The Romanian Orthodox Church and the Holocaust (Indiana University Press, 2017) to Ari Barbalat for the Jewish Studies section of the New Books Network podcast. The interview became available on 4 October 2022 and is available here.

Conference Paper

Biblical Studies. CBS honorary research fellow Mary Mills attended the conference of the International Society for Religion, Literature and Culture at Chester University in September and gave a paper on Transmutations in Space, Isaiah 34-5. Watch this space for a forthcoming publication.

New Publication

Dead Sea Scrolls. George Brooke has published the chapter "Rewriting authorship in the Dead Sea Scrolls" in Authorship and the Hebrew Bible, edited by Sonja Ammann, Katharina Pyschny, and Julia Rhyder. Further information.

East Asian Studies seminar

East Asian Studies seminar. The next East Asian Studies seminar will be on Wednesday 19 October and the speaker will be Dr. Jessica Starling (Lewis and Clark College). Dr Starling presentation will be on Meaning, Morality, and Health: Hansen’s Disease and Religion in Japan. The talk will be held at 4.15pm on Wednesday 19 October in Roscoe Building 1.010.
