Religion and politics. Public lecture: "War and Peace: The Birth of International Law" at the John Rylands Institute, 27th April, 5pm. The evening will be chaired by Dr Michael Hoelzl and Professor Andrej Zwitter (University of Groningen) who will present a theo-political investigation on Hugo Grotius, the founding father of international law as we know it today. This evening will offer a unique opportunity to see the Rylands very rare first edition of Hugo Grotius’ ground-breaking work on war and peace De jure belli ac pacis libri tres of 1625 and other first editions of key works which laid the foundations of our contemporary understanding of war and peace.
