Public Lecture, Pittsburgh

Christian Studies.  Peter Nockles will give the annual public lecture in October, entitled '"Beloved, let us love another, for love is of God". (1 John iv. 7): Saint John Henry Newman, and the Role of Friendship and Personal Influence in the Oxford Movement". This is associated with the 2020 Gailliot Award ($10,000) made in recognition of a lifetime achievement in promoting and advancing the study of the life, writings, and influence of John Henry Newman. The award is made by the National Institute for Newman Studies, Pittsburgh, US. Further information.

Are Jews the Only True Monotheists? The annual conference of the British Association for Jewish Studies (BAJS) took place in Manchester, 5-7 July. A podcast of the keynote lecture is now available, which was given by Prof. David Ruderman of the University of Pennsylvania, and which was entitled 'Are Jews the Only True Monotheists? Some Critical Reflections in Jewish Thought from the Renaissance to the Present'. The conference was co-sponsored by the Institut für Jüdische Philosophie und Religion, Universität Hamburg, and the Centre for Jewish Studies, University of Manchester, and the conference theme was 'Atheism, Scepticism and Challenges to Monotheism'.
